TeamVibes

A player evaluation system designed to enhance safety and communication in competitive games.

Why Toxicity Is Complicated

The problem with toxic players is that everyone has different standards for what counts as “toxic.” Some feel uncomfortable with strong language, while others are okay with high-energy communication. As such, the only option currently is to mute, which doesn’t reflect individual comfort levels.

What TeamVibes Does

TeamVibes provides a third-party player rating system. Based on ratings from previous matches, it gives users the option to dodge or mute players whose behavior falls below their personal threshold—either before or right after the match begins.

How Players Are Rated

Players can rate unmuted teammates on a 4-level scale after a ranked match. If no rating is given, the second-highest level is used by default. Players receiving the lowest rating can optionally be tagged with the reason.

Ratings are stored on the server and include:

  • Overall score
  • Warnings for VC, text chat, or gameplay behavior

Preventing Bias or Abuse

Ratings are only shown within the app during matches started while TeamVibes is active. They are not public and not visible to the rated player.

Users are prohibited from revealing the use of TeamVibes to other players. The goal is not to influence others, but to allow personal safety settings without creating bias.

Trust Score Calculation

A trust score is assigned to each reviewer based on how often they rate and whether their ratings are consistently fair or biased.

Why It’s Third-Party

Since TeamVibes is not official, users can opt in freely. This means no one is forced to adopt the system, and those who dislike it can ignore it completely.

Feasibility

A working prototype already exists. The client side is complete, and a demo can be shared upon request.

“I encountered a toxic player in my very first ranked match today. I truly believe we need tools to protect ourselves.”
